Indian students planning to study in Ireland must complete an online visa application before submitting their supporting documents and biometric information at the nearest VFS Visa Application Centre.
The visa application process generally involves the following steps:
- Receive an Offer Letter: Obtain an official Letter of Acceptance from a recognized Irish university or higher education institution.
- Submit the Visa Application: Complete and submit the online visa application through the Irish Visa Office.
- Prepare the Required Documents: Submit all necessary supporting documents, including:
- Valid passport
- Letter of Acceptance from the Irish institution
- Proof of sufficient financial funds
- English language proficiency test results (where applicable)
- Academic documents
- Any additional documents requested by the Irish immigration authorities
- Provide Biometrics: Visit the designated VFS Visa Application Centre to submit your biometric information and supporting documents.
- Attend a Visa Interview (If Required): Applicants may be requested to attend a visa interview as part of the assessment process.
- Visa Decision: Once your application has been processed and approved, your student visa will be issued, allowing you to travel to Ireland and begin your studies.
Documents Required for an Ireland Student Visa

Financial Requirements
Students must demonstrate sufficient financial resources by providing:
- Proof of payment of at least €6,000 or 50% of the total tuition fee (whichever is higher) to the institution before submitting the visa application. This is a mandatory immigration requirement.
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover living expenses during their stay in Ireland.
- Sponsor’s financial documents, including Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the previous two financial years.
Additional Supporting Documents
Applicants may also be required to submit:
- A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) or Character Verification Certificate confirming that they have no criminal record.
- A detailed explanation, along with supporting documents, for any gap in education, including employment, internships, training, or other relevant activities during the period.
- Proof of English language proficiency through an accepted test such as IELTS or PTE Academic, demonstrating the ability to complete the chosen programme.
